A grass roots non-profit for the benefit of impoverished children of Bali and Tibetan refugee children in India |
|
This program is designed to identify „hot spots“ - places where assistance for the education of poor Balinese children is urgently needed, and can produce quick and measurable results. Our first „Action“ was to identify an orphanage in Bali with an urgent need. This orphanage was found in northern Bali. It has 82 children, some of which are not true orphans, but have been placed there by their parents as they are unable to care for them financially. Smiles for the Children indentified an immediate need for scholarship help. Eighteen of the children should graduate from middle school to high school next month– however the orphanage has not the means to pay the school fees (public education through middle school has no fees, but the parents must pay for books, uniforms and stationary). If the children do not move on to high school they will be out of the school system forever. In the Balinese economy a high school diploma has a considerable employment value– an University degree even more. Each child needs about US$220 for fees, books, uniforms and stationary for each year. Please make it possible for one or more of these children to move on to high school. Please go to our „General Donations“ page and use the „General Fund“ donation button. ___________
